WELCOME FROM THE THE PRESIDENT OF THE PROVINCIAL COUNCIL OF CÓRDOBA AND MAYORESS OF PRIEGO DE CÓRDOBA

When giving the welcome to the artists attending this 17th ECWS International Watercolour Exhibition and Symposium “Córdoba 2014”, and who will also have the opportunity to visit and to paint in Priego of Córdoba, I would like to explain briefly the causes that have motivated the election of Priego as one of the venues.

First, it is, clearly, because of the beauty of our city and its landscaping surroundings (the Natural Park of the Subbéticas Mountains), where artists may find numberless subjects to captive with their brushes.

Secondly, it is because of the Municipal Patronage “Adolfo Lozano Sidro”, which led, since 1994, a movement around watercolour in all Andalusia which brought the greatest Spanish watercolour masters to this town. Since then, Priego has become an essential reference both for the Andalusia and the Spanish watercolour panorama.

For that reason, we are thankful to the Agrupación de Acuarelistas de Andalucía for choosing Priego as one of the venues of Cordoba 2014 International Symposium, an encounter that we hope will become an unforgettable reference for the future for all the attendees.

WELCOME FROM THE MAYOR OF CÓRDOBA

The city of Córdoba will open its arms in October 2014 to offer the best of itself to all the participants in the ECWS International Watercolour Exhibition and Symposium, and  wishes of all them a most pleasant and fruitful stay among us.

Córdoba is world-wide well-known by its enormous and prodigious artistic and monumental patrimony, but we all hope that your stay among us will allow you to discover precious elements of our culture as our extensive and varied gastronomy and the reputed hospitality of the Cordoba.

As watercolourists, your visit to Córdoba will enable you to discover the infinity of shades that the city encloses for art creators. From the absolute beauty of its “encaladas” (whitewashed) streets to the chromatic variety of its “patios”, along with the pulchritude of its dusks by the Guadalquivir banks or the diversity of landscapes that offers the proximity of the mountain ranges.

As Mayor of Córdoba I wish that you have the opportunity to discover the multiple enchantments of a city that enjoys three World Heritage recognitions by UNESCO and that offers the artists a variety of extremely attractive corners to open your easels and captive their soul in a watercolour.

Mayor of Córdoba

WELCOME FROM THE ECWS COORDINATOR

Dear ECWS members and dear all,

The 17th exhibition and symposium of the European Confederation of Watercolour Societies will be held in Córdoba in October 2014 by initiative of the Agrupación de Acuarelistas de Andalucía.

As coordinator of the ECWS, I thank the Board of the AAA, and the Municipality of the town of Córdoba for giving us this opportunity.

The ECWS (http://ecws.eu/) was launched in 1998 by initiative of the Belgian and the Italian watercolour societies. Today the ECWS is an important network of 13 associations and nearly 5000 painters from Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Iceland, Italy, Norway, Poland, Spain, Sweden and it is possible to expand.

I welcome the participating artists and lovers of this suggestive and challenging technique.
